Watch For Ice On Bridge

Watch For Ice On Bridge The sun never shines quite as bright as it did that night Soak in that garish glow Everyone knew where we are, til we started the car And followed the radio Past the point of no return We slept with the lights dark We kept the car in park But forgot to set the emergency brake I didn’t steer and we slipped into gear And ended up in a lake Somehow, we lost control Maybe when when the lights went dim Hard to steer a queen sized bed The speed bumps didn’t slow us down Too slick for tires tred It taught me how to drive, and swim Summer streets of sunshine Blue skies and late nights Almost like going back in time To when our roads and eyes had lights Before we fell from Such Great Heights What happened to our timeline? Why did greens and blues become grays and whites? Ice paved paths should be a crime Then at least I’d get read my rights And learn the reason for these fights I’ve learned a lot since then too Like keeping both hands on the wheel And to always wear my seatbelt I’ve learned how to handle thanks to the curves thrown by you Detours, potholes, and obstacles unreal Sunshine, downpours, and hailstones that pelt Blown fuses, flat tires, and brakes worn through And a hit and run sideswipe for a courteous yield I hope you never have to feel what I’ve felt…
