Waking Up Lonely

In the morning, I dread waking up.
When I do, there is no you.
Since you left me, it's the one thing
I haven't been able to get used to.

There are nights I drink coffee,
Trying to make myself stay awake.
On the hard days I'm missing you,
There are these pills that I take.

In the end, it doesn't matter.
Eventually my body will give in.
Sleep is a necessity in life;
This battle I can never win.

When I wake up and it's empty
There on your side of the bed,
This wave of loneliness and anxiety
Rushes through my head.

Quickly I remember again
That you left me and went away.
That makes the anxiety leave me,
But the loneliness will stay.
