Love Poem: Us

Us

I said sorry to a lady today.
She looked like you.
And in the foggy mirror each day
My image melts away
And I see the reflection of two
People happy,
Not one, without a clue.

I can’t do this every day, replaying
Us, before you betrayed
Us, I think you played
Us. Maybe I fabricated
Us, and the whole time it was only
Me, standing alone in the dark, and
You, lying, in bed,

Or maybe that was me instead.
While you stood and cried, I lied.
Or maybe, if we’re being honest,
Us just died.

I said sorry to a lady today.
She wasn’t you.
