True Christmas

How humbly did our Savior come to us
How unlike the expectations of mankind
Through virgin birth, in lowly manger stall
'Neath natal star, shining bright, heavenly light.

As hosts of angels sang their Hallelujahs
Startling shepherds, watching their flocks by night
Mary gazed with peace upon her precious child
The promised Savior, God's own Son, His pure delight.

All creation paused, in hushed adoration
As cattle, sheep, shepherds and wise men came
To gaze upon the beauty of God's perfect love
Manifested fully in helpless, holy babe.

How like the Father, to make a plan so pure
How like mankind, that we forget His gift to us
May our hearts and minds return to Jesus' birth
At Christmastime, in Him to place our trust.
