Love Poem: Transfusion
Julie Forbush Avatar

Transfusion

carefully
with dexterous fingers
& searching eyes
i steal the pieces of yourself
& accept the freely given
strips of flesh,
new & bleeding
in exchange,
i try to cover every wound
& opening
with an infusion
of my own blood,
my own tender pink exposer
until it all grows together
some stitched & scared mass;
half beautiful, half frightening
built of all the truths,
however dark or shining,
we encounter
as the layers peel
revealing the increasing depths
of color, shade,
& texture
ever closer
to the elusive center
