Track of My Tears

You were always a good friend to me
and boy, you had always been so funny.
You told jokes that often drove me to laughter,
we shared so many times together.

You fell in love with a friend of mine,
you were happy, life seemed so kind -
to see you both starting out a new life,
two lovely people now man and wife.

Through all the years you struggled hard,
you knew misfortunes but you played your card.
Through thick and thin you pushed and you fought on,
you were a brave man, you always won.

Then tragedy struck, you were dying,
it came without any sign or warning:
evil cells growing inside your body
taking and wasting your life away.

Now it shatters me to pieces,
you're the one I know I’ll always miss.
You lost your last and hardest fight
on a cold January night.

Merciful indeed is that evil God
taking away the only friend I ever had.
I'm gonna miss you, dear old friend,
I can't believe it is the end,
but I can't forget all our years,
see this track of my tears.

Damn this fate, so cruel and unkind,
your wife and young children you left behind -
an unborn child yet to see the morning light,
tell me, was life to you fair and right?

Goodbye to you now, my dear old friend,
I had always loved and respected you.
Farewell to you, dear departed Danny,
sleep in peace, my brother, my friend.
