Thru Maritime Miles 9-Reconciliation

Now Davey was glad that Miss Lori was cool
To not be so mad with a man like a fool
The money she spent for the rent that was not
Was no longer sent for the tent that he got

The fact of the matter that made her get hot
Was not what he did but the lie that she bought
He gave what he had for the sake of the rent
Except for the bad that a brake might prevent

“The promise we break is a word of no good
A lie that we make for the reason we could
A breach that is deep is no key to the sky
Nor beach you can leap when the sea is gone dry”

“Your word is the bond that you bring to your trust
A promise more strong by the way it is just
You take what you keep by the increase you find
To wake from your sleep in the peace of your mind”

A piece of her mind is what Davey received
To teach him the wrong in the way he deceived
“Your typical pirate is pretty in pink
But gentleman pirates are witty and think”

The best of a pirate will always avoid
The rest of a pirate that makes him annoyed
He takes from the bad for the sake of the poor
By robbing the pirates who robbed him before

He talks like a man to the man who just talks
Who learned all he can from the parrot that squawks
He seeks what is best for the mateys who won’t
And never will jest with the ladies who don’t

He writes to his brood on the days that are grey
When fish are the food that he spies on the way
The source of his strife is the goat that is high
But only when barrels of whiskey are dry

Now Davey, my darling, I know you mean well
I know that your past is the future of hell
I know that the sea is the song that you sing
That keeps you from me when I long for a ring

But now that you beg me to take you right back
I need you to stay on the leg of my track
The courage you need is the team we can be
The purge in your sleep of a dream without me

The day that we wed is the course we must face
To say that my bed is no source of disgrace
The children I bear will be born two by two
A girl for me and a boy just for you

But don’t worry, dear, for the bed that is right
If mother comes here in the dead of the night
She knew what to do by the sets that she bore
A family that grew by new triplets or more.
