This Man So Flawed

He came to her a broken man
     with no facade.
If he’d ever worn the mask of a Prince Charming,
it had cracked and been discarded
                                                 long ago.

He came to her imperfect,
for his heart was torn in half.
Afraid was he to give his love again.
But she saw what others could not see . .
and she had patience.

He had never given the illusion
of being anything but what he was -
a simple man with simple needs.
He could not spoil her with expensive gifts or dinners,
but he listened with real interest to all she said.

Eventually she got him to do the same with her.
He opened up his heart to her and told his story.
His heart’s tear began to mend.
In the end, this man so flawed
                                became her Mr. Perfect.
