This Grand Old House With Its Large Oak Doors

This grand old house with large oak doors
Seen history play out over years and years
Standing here, looking up at the portrait of you
Seeing the face of someone I once knew

This grand old house with its thick stone walls
Seen many dancing feet in it's great, wide hall
Where I took your hand many moons ago
With propriety shunned, your blushed cheeks aglow
How we found our love with no spoken words
Electricity of touch, your smile condemned my heart

This grand old house in its land of fields
Where we dared to venture into the night to see our defences yield
As we kissed under the stars with the moon full and bright
You had to return to your house, I was led into the night!
Cast away to a foreign land, they guaranteed my leave by removing both of my hands
A beggar on the street, a disease to the anointed few!
I died a lonely death in the dark thinking only of you

Now returned I am remembering from over a century ago
I see your smile without the joy of love, your eyes captured with a gaze of sorrow
I wait for you in the place of ours after this building is asleep
I stand next to our favourite tree in our moonlit field

This grand old house with its large oak doors
I see one open and a glow of light through the dark between us
I see you find your way to stand in front of me
Our souls are now at peace, we are together again and forever will be.
