Love Poem: Third Wheel

Third Wheel

And so I thought it’s nice to be alone
Seemingly loving life on my own
Free from a union gone sour
There’s no need for tears to pour

A newly discovered freedom
Free from what’s boring me down
No demands, no ties that bind
An end to lies that kept me blind

And so I thought I found happiness
So why is there still this loneliness?
Seeing couples having so much fun
Around people like me who have no one

But what hurts most I can’t deny
Is to be with you and feel the lies
Sharing laughter when I wanted to cry
Seeing you love her through your eyes

I was there but not really there
A love in the open we cannot share
Green with envy my heart bleeds
I have feelings, I have needs

You said you wanted me around
But you can’t show that you’re proud
To have her and have me, too
Feelings I set aside to follow you

In this masquerade I came to know
I don’t need this love I tend to borrow
It signals the end for all this show
That you and I only know.
