The Visitation

A little bird came to rest next to me
With its gaze it said, somewhat timidly
Be free, lay down your worry and fear
Fly with me, let all else disappear

I thought for a minute, if only I could
And then for another, maybe I should
I can learn to fly though perhaps not on wing
But nonetheless by pluck, I can learn to sing

Just like my little friend in sweet liberation
I put my burden down with new expectation
With that it flew off, though its lesson remains
And I thought to myself, how this explains why
                       I love little birds
