The Tree

The Tree

If my heart was an open book,
What a story it would tell.
Been played so many times,
You’d think you’d know it well.

If a smile could hide the pain,
One would think that I was fine.
But the stress on the corners,
Couldn’t be hard to find.

For I’m just a tree,
In a forest overgrown.
Where the sun seldom shines,
Upon my modest home.

My branches reach out far,
Inviting someone in.
But at the end of the day,
I’m lonely once again.

My bark has harden,
From lack of love and care.
Those who even noticed,
Tend to laugh and stare.

Hidden from the world,
The beauty I could be.
If only someone took the time,
To love a tree like me.
