Love Poem: The Tree

The Tree

Tender limbs, branching out
Reaching for the heavens, the
Expression of a feeling, a grace
Far more beautiful and kind, wise
Like the sunlight who erases the night,
Guides the morning, so alive
Whispers beauty into the promises
Dancing into the heart who survives
The darkness, the secrets, the lies

It was the tree, so prudent
Who brought Eve from innocent
To tainted by the knowledge
Good and evil – never blameless
Her virtue disgraced, shamed
By the fruit that the tree raised
To silence His grace, bring
Mourning for the naivete, the
Incorruptible – simplicity

It was the tree who would cry
Tears of grief, disappointment, regret
Because He would bar the way,
Destroy the entrance into joy
Forbidding anyone to eat of the fruit
Which makes a way for the spirit
To know what it is to live forever,
The tree of life –
blocked by His Cherubim

Then, revealing His abiding grace
Mercy that would open the door to
Eternity, forevermore – the tree of life,
Instead of bearing fruit – bore the One
Who was the light of the world…
This tree was - fashioned into a cross for the Son
Who would open the door to new life!

Because of His sacrifice on that tree…
That made a way for you and me
God’s gift – the tree of life, the cross…
Suffered the One who was God’s only Son –
The One who brought peace on earth,
The One who is God’s reassurance of Love!

Genesis 3:24 (KJV) So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
