The Story Untold

Every time I look in the mirror
I see as you would have seen me
Every song I listen to
I hear my heart beat to your name
And I’m at the edge of a mountain
Wondering what lies above,
And what lies below.

My silly heart breaks every time I smile
When the truth hits that you’re as far as reality
That I’ll never walk hand-in-hand with you through cobbled lanes
Or giggle at the sound of secret words we made
What is left after the dust clears
Is a cold soul, devoid of your fire
An angry heart that’s broken beyond repair
And lips as dry as ice.

No more fast cars to play my favorite songs,
No more morning teas or late night hot chocolates
An end to all the undeserved kisses
And every time I believe, that the poison is drained from me
There’s a bit more that floods my veins
Who can show me all that I can be
Beyond this mesh of nerves and bones
Who can show me what to believe
That right will be righted and wrong will be wronged.

Surviving from moment to moment,
I’m not alive, nor am I dead
And I just want to forget the way I felt
The way you made me feel
Scratch it off me, wash it away,
Make me brand new
Put me back together
Like a shiny diamond, hard and strong
But I’m at the stop sign, looking left, looking right
Can’t turn back, don’t know how to move ahead.

I’m a rebel now,
Never settle
Never settle down
There’s nothing to love me now
Nothing to stop me some how
Except the bitter, not sweet memory of you
And the pain’s never really gone
And it’s never really going to disappear,
But maybe it could be invisible,
Invincible, could I ever be
Who better to tell me than you? Or me?
