The Silent Kiss
The silent kiss between the two,
flashed in furtive longing glances
was all they ever had
could have;
and the torture that they met
each day
to pass that untouched, silent kiss
seared in withheld passion
is what they bore.
Their tender lips would never meet
or hands caress a dampened cheek;
it dared not speak its name
their love.
And many others came before, and since,
so died,
who only ever knew a silent kiss.
