Love Poem: The Ring On the Table

The Ring On the Table

The foot of the wineglass
Left a ring on the table
The table was scarred
By the foot of the wineglass

The ring on the table
Was left there, rejected
Next to the ring that the wineglass
Left on the table

The man drove home
Who left the ring on the table
The ring next to the ring
Left by the foot of the wineglass

The ring was rejected
Whilst the table accepted
The scar on its surface
Left by the foot of the wineglass

The man was rejected
As the wet circle reflected
The dim candle-lit room
Where the bride left the groom
Utterly rejected

And all that remains
Are the wine-foot stains
On the table of wood
Where the wineglasses stood
