Love Poem: The Other Woman

The Other Woman

It's cheap to be
(some may say)
the one who steals
his heart away
but in my head
I know completely
that I came out on top.

For it makes more sense
(to me, at least)
to be the one
with whom he cheats
for a heardened heart
has no wishes
or dreams or expectations.

As the other woman
I already know
that affections he feels
he already shows
and I never push
the envelope
or long to hear "those words".

I have a talent
for being hands off
unless involved
in removing cloth
be it buttons or zippers
the job gets done
and he's gone before the morn.

You ask for more
than he's willing to give
and then are surpised
when he doesn't deliver
and blame me
the one known as
naught but The Other Woman.

Take my advice,
and make your heart stone
for then there will be
no pain when alone
and you'll survive
moving on
and be better off for it.

Or you could...

Stay at home
and play mother
and be depressed
when he leaves for another
but you had to know
that he was seeing
me, that damned Other Woman.
