The Memory

I had my heart broken when I was young
There's still a bitter taste upon my tongue
My life has been fine for all of these years
Why do I recall my face wet with tears
The human spirit absorbs some mighty blows
And laughs as if "that's just the way it goes"
But somewhere inside a memory lies
To be examined in its hows and whys
It will not lie dormant for very long
Until it demands to know what went wrong
There are no answers and there never were
Perhaps that's the reason I still think of her
My heart has mended from when I was young
But there's a bitter taste upon my tongue
