The Love You Gave Me

In my eyes drifts a sea of blue,
as I stare at the endless sky,
all the clouds I see show me a picture of you,

My heart begins to ache,
and as I reach up to wipe the tears away,
my hands start to shake,

They try to grasp the memories,
reaching for the happiness seeping away,
but they give up so I sink down onto my knees,

You gave me your heart,
that summer of unbridled passion,
I don’t even know where to start,

Making love under the stars,
your kisses fueling my lust,
or watching the romantic sunset from the back seat of your car,

To my soul you found the key,
unleashing my desire,
I begged you to never leave me,

But your lips covered my own,
then reached deep inside,
promising you would never leave me to be alone,

I believed you,
didn’t question at all,
and as the days went on our love grew,

Grew and grew until that night,
the rain pounded the roads,
diminishing all the light,

They found your car on the side of the highway,
when they gave me the call,
I didn’t know what to say,

The man told me the last thing he said,
before his heart stopped beating,
before his breath was choked red,

He said “tell her I love her,”
then his mouth was wordless,
and no longer in his eyes emotion did stir,

For months I was in shock,
comforting my soul,
which was now a keyless lock,

And even now though over a year has passed by.
I sit in this wistful field,
and all I can do is cry,

But now my image walks farther and farther away,
from your grave in that meadow,
where my heart will always stay...
