The Lost Puppy

Up and down the cobbled streets
A father will not accept defeat.
It’s 2am, the rain lashes
Desperately from street to street he dashes.

A lost puppy scared and soaked
Would never bite, even if provoked
Reacts to every single sound
Nowhere near homeward bound.

A yelp, a whimper, a desperate cry
Just as the father passes by.
The puppy sees, wags his tail
And runs towards, awfully frail.

The door opens, the father stands
With a soaked puppy in his hands.
The daughter runs, tears flowing
The love for her puppy showing.

His tail wags, he licks her face,
This puppy she cannot replace,
Her father did what he had to do,
And proved his love is especially true.
