Love Poem: The Logophile

The Logophile

more than a fetish for words
some of us breathe in the scent of language
as if it was the last leg of
sustenance before the final blow
that will take us all out to
send us spiraling downward into the
grave.

more than a lust for words,
those who love to hear people talk, who love dialogue in films,
who long to hear their favorite rapper flow,
who long to indulge in the genius of old literature
while swimming in the newest piece of fiction or non
that they can get their hands on---
we know the addiction all too well,
how much this thing called life
dwells within the realm of the word.

now, if it be that during our lifetimes this thing called
language would morph to something beyond the realm of
words,
personally, this writer would be a bit bummed---
no doubt, what comes next will be no less creative,
and there will be a new love
a new lust for the most relevant communication out there
be it telepathic or provided in some new way by machines,
through the hyperreality of the net, etc.

but in this present moment,
what we have is what we got and what we got is
words,
wondrous words,
which will not whither
but instead,
attack, inspire, rebel, and free our minds---
bringing the lot of us into the mix
the best way we know how.
