Love Poem: The Lion's Den

The Lion's Den

You came for me.
You hunted me, and pounced in the dark.
I couldn't have known.

It began on a starry night.
With coked up, drunken friends
on the couch watching cartoons

It began with a laugh
and a gleam in your eyes.
With a joint, some shattered glass
and a kiss on a bleeding hand.

It began with words
spoken until dawn.
With lightning coursing in my veins.
I trembled at your wonderful madness.

It began with a confession
and a hint of hope.
With a promise of someday
and an impatient desire for now.

It grew to finding refuge
and trading sleep to be one.

You touched. I ignited.
You kissed, and I surrendered.
You pulled me close, the beast awoke,
howling to be let out

I'm in the lion's den
No regrets. No tears.
You prowl my soul, always.
I am raining fire
and I will forever burn to stay
