Love Poem: The Land

The Land

Walk with me through the land of faded dreams,
Where the sky is pale and the trees are hollow,
Where the sun is dim and the wind has no direction.
Walk with me for an hour of the broken clock and make me forget
That this is where I chose to live.

Come lay with me on this vast and empty bed
That stretches the dreams into hope and leaves you hopeless in the morning,
It turns the night into sleepless hours and minutes into days.
Come lay beside me and awake me into a new tomorrow
When we no longer will be strangers.

I wonder if you'd like this small country that I've created just for us,
Neither wars nor battles needed to be fought and no glory claimed or sought,
It's just a small stretch of land where I sit and wait for you,
Now that all the letters have been written, feelings inked and bottled
And thrown into the merciless sea.

And if by chance, by faith or reckless waters these words might find you,
Don't stall or waver your flight into the dark
Because fireflies will guide you and the moon will keep you safe.
And when you slay all the sea monsters and cross the restless oceans,
You will sail into this harbour where our journey shall begin.

But if these words are smudged by the water or sink to the bottom of the sea,
I will walk the length of this land across and over, over and over again
In hope or in delusion that you are on your way,
When the truth is farther than the distance pushed between us
And will lead this lovelorn land into dismay.
