The Hunt

When I was young and eager to live,
I hunted a thing I knew not what.
I had so much I wanted to give
But to whom or to what I knew not.

My pa laughed, said,"Why, that's easy son.
You are hunting happiness, that's all."
"Happiness?",I thought,"So, that's the one."
That hunt, that trophy became my call.

I hunted wide and I hunted far,
And I found a man who said he knew.
He said,"Fame and riches aren't your star.
But just what it is is up to you."

I said,"Thanks for nothin'"and moved on.
I hunted harder and wider still
Until finally my hope was gone.
So I sought a bar to drink my fill.

There she was just standing in the door.
She had looked for something everywhere.
I looked and knew I need hunt no more -
Happiness has blue eyes, golden hair.
