The Greatest Gift
I have seen God's work at sunrise,
Watched the brand new day a-coming,
The soft glow of hope and wonder
Set my heart and soul a-humming.
I have listened to the music
Of his gentle birds a-singing,
It enthralled my heart with gladness
Like bright butterflies a-winging.
I have explored his open fields,
The tall amber grains a-blowing,
Felt the glowing thrill of nature
Through my peaceful soul a-flowing.
I have watched his golden sunset
At the end of day a-gleaming,
And enjoyed the inner calmness
That set off my mind a-dreaming.
But, when I held each newborn babe,
So enraptured there a-gazing,
I felt God's greatest gift of all-
My maternal love a-blazing.
