Love Poem: The Girl I Wanted

The Girl I Wanted

THE GIRL I WANTED

I wanted a girl who did not smoke,
And who would laugh at my silly jokes.
I wanted a girl who’d never been
In bed with man, committing sin.
A girl who wouldn’t drink beer or wine
And could give me love so warm and fine.
I thought I was asking for quite a lot,
But believe it or not, the one that I got
Fit all of those qualities right to a tee,
And God had saved her just there for me!
An extra added bonus for me:
She was a present ‘neath my Christmas tree.
She wrapped me in her love and gave
Me all the kisses I could save.
She stokes me with her tender hands
And meets my every love’s demands.
And when we got so close I knew
That it was ecstasy so true.
I wanted a girl who’d understand,
And from the day our love began
She tried her best to give to me
The love I needed so desperately.
And though we’ve faced some stormy weather,
Our love and God kept us together.
I wondered once why I had to go
Out to the country for this treasure so.
But now I know the reason why:
There’s much more room in the country sky.
Things that grow there need lots of space
If they’re to be a healthy race.
The city life is a crowded lot,
And not much room a person’s got.
But in the country things can grow
And blossom out to a finer show.
So God planted the one I needed there
So she could be a blossom fair.
The girl I wanted now is mine,
And I will love her all the time.
And thought it’s been two years since when
I said “I do” and loved her then,
I love her more than two years ago,
And still pray my love will ever grow.
Christmas presents may come and go,
But she’ll be here with me I know.
Through rain or snow or cold or heat
She’ll keep my life so nice and neat.
It’s easy to see this fact is true:
The girl I wanted, dear, was you!
