The First Snow Fall

~~ The First Snow Fall ~~

A Poem by Debbie_Philly

The First Snowfall

Watching the first snowfall
in the quite of the night
under the glow of the street lamp
I am reminded of you.

I was apprehensive about us
at first scared even
years of wrong choices
kept you at arms lengths.
You appeared out of no where
whispering in my ear.
I was comforted by your words
 feeling excited about the prospect
of being young again.
We were going places together
that was promised
I thrived on that,it didnt last long.
Instead we slowed down like
lazy snowflakes drifting apart.
Why does the first snowfall remind
me of you?
It should remind me of childhood
memories with cherished moments.
I wanted that feeling again with you.
I anticipated all of the joys
in the pure white rain.
Promises with the first snowfall
bringing us to life at midnight.
Under the glow of the street lamp
laughing,
playing,
kissing
snow angles
and snowball fights.
all of these things keeping
us young and alive in each
other.
Hopes of being reborn
with a friend withered
like the melting slush
that was once magic.
Like love unattainable
falling like old laughter
in the still white night.
