Love Poem: The Fall of Our Norms

The Fall of Our Norms

Sad to witness our falling norms,
it effects all governance forms.
Lack of tolerance and forbearance
tilts the union's nonpartisan stance.

We reach for mutual toleration
it's the savior of this fair nation.
Rid us of political hypocrisy
to secure American democracy.

Hard to admit, but at its base
the core question is one of race.
Decline loathing of one another:
see us all as one, not the other.

Autocrats and demagogues may rule
yet it's only a few that they'll fool.
Constitutions expected to be our guide
fanatics turn and twist them to hide.

A single party can't be a goal -
would undermine our country's soul.
Democracy relies on informed debate:
if we act now, it won't be too late.

Our next leader will fight high and low
the truth's been muted, as you know.
Protecting our republic's key institutions
will bring issues to proper conclusions.

A new voice on the national stage
will spark voters to rally and engage.
Popular strategies must arise
with policies so obviously wise.

One who clearly leads from principle
with a sound vision that is sensible.
A leader whose followers will urge
for a widespread Congressional purge.

Again America will promote love, not hate
for that's what makes America great.
The times will test our fading norms
but we will survive the cultural storms.
