Love Poem: The End of Love

The End of Love

I sat while holding hands with you
To talk with you that day
I was afraid t'would be my last
Before you went away

We talked about a lot of things
We laughed and also cried
I knew the end was coming near
And I would lose my bride

A lovely peaceful day we had
Just sitting side by side
Her fingers were entwined with mine
The fingers of my bride

We talked of countless things we saw
Of places far and wide
Of sunsets and sunrises
Cuddled closely with my bride

Our marriage stood the test of time
For many, many years
Some with laughter, some with hope
And many filled with tears

We managed with our laughter
To allay the hope and fears
And yet through deep, unyielding love
We continued through the years

We never thought we'd be alone
If one should pass away
Yet there I sat just holding hands
Not knowing, t'was this day

Now I sit here in this room
Seeing us standing side by side
Me in a suit, you in a dress
About to be my bride

I never thought in those young years
Someday this all would end
But you must know should I get the chance
I'd do it, all over again
