The Elder and the Whitethorn

I saw two trees entwined in Bushy Park.
Their seeds had found the same small patch of ground.
Their barks caress, a whitethorn and an elder.
The first was at his springtime best, the elder waits til later.
Their roots entwine unseen.
As whitethorn shades elder’s green from sun,
both soil and sap are shared,
and they are consumated one.
