The Day That Brings

Oh Tuesday night! Bringer of two most beautiful days.
The expectant day.
Packing my bag now. Picking an outfit.
Picking two. Both for you.
Have I got everything? Teabags?
Hot chocolate? The silly gift?

Oh Wednesday morning! Bringer of my lover to me.
The best day.
A look at my watch. You’re driving to the station.
Another look. You’ll have parked, got on the train.
Feverish texting. I love you. How excited are you?
How’s the weather?

Oh beautiful Wednesday! Bringer of us together.
The excited day.
Dash out of the office. An innocent hug. A secret
Smile. An excited hello. A hidden kiss.
Later a cup of tea. What time are you finishing?
As early as possible!

Oh Wednesday night! Bringer of the time we’ve yearned for.
The best night.
Close the door behind us. Close the rest of you out.
Hello. Tea. A starting something kiss.
Love, life, laughter and passion
Now, don’t wait, rest and again.

Oh Thursday morning bringing us dawn and clouds.
The relaxed morning.
We should get up. Should go to work.
Can’t let each other go. Five more minutes and more.
Our morning dance. Perfectly in step.
You boil the kettle. Pour the water. I finish the tea. Dress.

Oh Thursday afternoon bringing sorrow and joy.
The last day.
Stroll to work. Stand close on the Tube.
As close as we dare. A kiss with lips that don’t touch.
Church tea. A sigh. Then to Euston.
Sit on a wall. Then a wave, texts and a call.
