Love Poem: The Country Road We Walked

The Country Road We Walked

the country road we walked
dark captive in dusk's low light,
arms and hands held closely warm
your hair was copper in growing night,

as if shy actors missing cue
constellations splash out in the night,
dark wings wake and fill the air
as if to mock the fading light,

foot falling step'd in step
like mist we're covered with the night,
to breathe your breath
bold vintage sweet and light,

to have, to hold but moments pass
as shadow claimed the dimming light,
too soon, so soon
I walk now into lonely night.
