The Colors of Young Love

Gliding barefoot and earthbound
digging her lavender painted toenails
through soft blades in hues of watermelon green.
He’s there watching her with aquamarine eyes
and a hint of a knowing smile.

A chartreuse flute of bubbly champagne awaits her
and ornate bowls full of juicy sliced lemons
and a delicious chocolate dipping sauce
that he hopes to soon lick from her crimson lips.

The tangerine sun beginning to set
in the fiery saffron tinted sky
wrapping the young couple
in the day’s last lingering breath.

He hugs her tightly in his devoted arms
feeling her soft lilac summer dress against his tan skin.
They both let out a audible fragrant sigh
as he kisses her parted lips deeply.

He brushes a strand of wavy coral hair
away from her blushing cheek
knowing in that brief moment of time—
all the colors just make sense.
