The Closer Ones

After sixteen years
How does one say bye?
How do you let go?
Not of them
But the company
To embrace loneliness
And say bye
How?
How do you refuse a silent bye bye

To no one but the closer ones

I’ll play a façade, a camaraderie
When you love the one who’s so far away
How do you deal with not being able to wake up every morning
And breathe, “I Love You!”
When your future prospectus dares to tell you
“Never again will you meet”
How do you wake up and still carry on with this loved one?

When words are your only angelic weapon to play in lieu of your heart
How do you remain faithful with so many others close by

It’s the devotion of the soul
It’s the freedom of the heart
It’s a reverie of the mind

If I faltered
Where would we stand?
If you faltered
Would my heart still beat?

When you love the one who’s far away
Regardless of the generation
How do you cope with the thought of future separation?
