i didn’t see it coming
for days walking in a daze
a fog that wasn’t lifting
obviously in shock
one foot in front of the other
on automatic pilot
not knowing what was next
then it happened
his ashes were ready to be picked up
triggering a flood of tears
there was no turning back
no delusion of him just having stepped out
he was coming home in a box
he was coming home
home to stay
