Love Poem: The Blessed

The Blessed

He was without shoes on a cold and misty morning.
The God inside of me gladly gave him my own.
Feeling the pain of someone else can be
absorbing to you and relieving in another.

It can enlarge their own horizons while
never diminishing your identity and status.
But if by chance it does, you are 'the blessed'.

If we fail to touch the heart and soul of another,
we may well suffocate our own or lose them altogether.
Their sweat need not drip on us; but do we feel their heat?

Our physical proximity to them does not carry the total
weight of their burdens, but we must dare to get close enough
emotionally and spiritually to make a lasting difference.

I do not cast myself as a model or an example, but I am grateful
that once in a while, God chooses to use a mortal like me.
