Love Poem: The Animal Shelter

The Animal Shelter

I know a place where people go
To look around for a special pet
They spend a few hours browsing
At big and small cages

In one room are many cages
They are filled with many cats
not happy cats; they're clawing to get out
Waiting to be chosen going to a new home

Behind a black door several dogs are kept
Sad eyes staring out of crartes
Barking and whining, desperate to get out
It makes me want to cry

People walk by, not really looming
Animals bark and mew loudly
Maybe hoping they'll noticed
By someone who will reach out to them

They are waiting and wondering when
That special person will come along
At night they dream of a yard
Where they can play and run

To be with a family that they'll be able to love
So badly they want to be free of their crates
Wanting to be in a loving home
Cherished by a family prepared to share their world
