The Address

O lady, be not so proud in your demands
Since you trained me to love alone
And He trained me to be content
While I plead for water from a stone.
You have despised me,
Left me nothing but your closed ended statements,
Confiscated every property
I held in safety until your return;
You have denounced me to the world,
And saw not how the world
Rushed in like a sea to take your place;
Nor how I bereft of my true pearl
Turned from the salty world
With silence and grace.
And now you would proclaim
Against all deceny of shame
Against all penitence, the right to blame:
That you so loved were never loved.
And I still in wonder
Stand amaze,
For I cannot worship this flawed pride,
Nor ever will worship any but God,
Despite of how deeply this love my core divide.
Nor, think not that I surrender
To the whim and caprice of all authority
Just because I cry my tears in privacy.
I love the rainbows of my broken heart.
I am ruled by none,
Except He who rules all boundlessly.
When you come home
Be nothing more than mortal then,
And you shall find I am too
A mortal that is your one immortal friend.
You will need me
When your manipulated pride unveils
The greater jealousy was not yours
But those who played you unlike Orpheus
Fluting your vengeance into grief.
