That Old Bench

Looking out at the window, I saw this old man sitting on an old bench under a Palm tree
His hairs are all silvered, his face is wrinkled, and he must be in his eighties
I'm watching him from afar and he looks like he's been there since seven thirty
It's more than five hours on that day, and lunch will come to pass soon...

I was wondering why he keeps on coming back to that certain place
He looks happy every time I saw him seated on that very space
But after each long morning he'll stand and walk away with his sad face
It seems he's been waiting for someone to meet him on that same phase...

On that day I've decided to go out and went next to him
I asked, If I can sit beside him, but he just stared, and say nothing
I assumed it was just fine to take a seat and he won't mind ,
But he looks at me as if he's going to devour me...

I stand up and went back to my place, with a throbbing heart and fearful face
The Following day, I looked out again at the window, but I saw no one's there
I went out and try to look around, maybe he changed his place, because of yesterday
I felt guilty and bad of my wrong act, He's been going there since 2003

I asked a bystander at the store, she said that the old man is gone and you'll not see him... anymore
I felt so bad that day and so dismayed, shocked and surprised by what I've learned
This old man keeps coming back to that same place, because of the memories left behind
His love.. His true love died on that very bench, was dragged by a car and hit that bench

It was their 40th anniversary, where they supposed to meet there
It is the same place, the very exact old bench... where they first met...
