Love Poem: Te'Amo

Te'Amo

After all the years of my life
She stood still at the foot of the mountain
The mountain from the smoke of our dream
And saw me coming contented to my knees
"Where have you been?" she asked
Frantic with the cares I had thrown away
Nowhere, I replied,
Nowhere that I would have like to have died

Love is serious like that
The same force that recalls the boomerang
Brings you back
Poised and curved to be thrown again
By the magic of the heart
To be swaddled by wind again
I mean words that shed our tears
Like green leaves of memory
From a ragged tree of pain

I do not remember ever wanting to die
Though death is always so immanent
I stayed ahead of it up the mountain
Coming down is the tricky part
You begin by discarding self
As just so much excess of clothes
And after all our acquisition to be something
You can define me
As just God's glory wrapped in dust
This is my unique way to talk of love

And all the while climbing stairs
And parting curtains
And climbing stairs and parting curtains
To behold the clouds
And wonder at dreams own Everest
Inside the temple of her breast
And then at the steeple's base alone
To sit, and review my journey again
All up and down the stairs alone
And you beside me now, trembling like a stone
In a child's hand before the gift
