Sunshine Doing An Inside Job

we are making breakfast burritos and laughing
though in hiding, we are expressing a truth too long hidden
the rain creates a perfect rhythm
i remember when we could not stand each other
i remember when we were face to face and nose to nose
i remember when we were telling each other off in wayward versions of prolonging
in actuality, we were just clowns failing a lie detector test and all too obvious

we are making buttermilk waffles and laughing
though in hiding, our feelings for each other are exhaling heavily in easy motions of conversation
i remember the kisses we would steal
i remember the poems i would secretly write for you
i remember you taking my hand when we would intentionally bring up the rear
in actuality, we were just in our own interrogation rooms questioning and simultaneously lying to ourselves

we are making freshly squeezed orange juice and laughing
though in hiding, we are letting go of our juvenile selves and putting on our grown up you-know-whats
i love you in ways that inspire the rain to turn into snow
you love me in ways that inspire the snow to turn back into rain
we love each other in ways that make the weather excitingly indecisive

breakfast is ready
dessert will cum later
