Sunrise, Sunset

As the soldier awaits the call to begin the night's patrol,
Thoughts of home and happier times pierce his anxious soul.
'Midst the din of battles, he's seen the gore and pain.
Will he see another brilliant sunrise or glorious sunset again?

Will he see his dear old mother who nurtured him thro' the years?
Who offers up her prayers to the One Who can allay all fears.
Thoughts of her love and care surge thro' his fevered brain.
Will he see another brilliant sunrise or glorious sunset again?

He thinks of his dear little angel and her precious smile,
Her golden curls and enchanting eyes that beguile.
His heart aches to embrace and kiss his sweet Elaine.
Will he see another brilliant sunrise or glorious sunset again?

Tears stain his face thinking of his wife, ever on his mind,
Her tender kiss, strolls on moonlit beaches, arms entwined.
And candlelight dinners with flutes of effervescent champagne.
Will he see another brilliant sunrise or glorious sunset again?

He glances left and right at the comrades he's sworn to protect,
This valiant squad of brothers he's come to love and respect.
They've borne the battle thro' snow, mud, sleet and rain.
Will they see another brilliant sunrise or glorious sunset again?
