Summers Heat

Mid, summer months of nineteen-fifty five-
     I met my sweetheart on a rare blind date.
A mere sixteen- for me, love came alive;
     the moment we locked eyes- it was too late.

Too late to ever give my heart away
     to any other man from that day on!
It beat so hard within my chest to say-
     our summers heat, forever-love was spawn.

So young we were- most thought it just a fling.
     However, after high school and beyond-
when he became a fine Marine- we'd cling
     to his next leave- reheat, keep warm our bond.

We wed in summer, 'fifty-eight! So sweet!
     Now- sixty-five years since that- summers heat.
