Love Poem: Staring Out the Window Alone

Staring Out the Window Alone

So cold is it out there
Near as cold as it is in here
While I sit here staring out the window alone
Still waiting for the Gods to throw me a bone

Mean and cruel the north wind blows
Turns to ice right down to the toes
Thoughts of all who have come before
Standing there at that wooden door

To be off again and turn me away
To call upon another day
Bitter does become the feed
That does not quite the hunger or fill the need

Dark are the eyes ever so deep
That awaken from such a fretful sleep
Anger lives way deep down in there
When the cold wind whispers upon the ears

Do not awaken the beast from inside
Leave it alone. Let it continue to hide
Pondering all that waste my dear
And if it wasn't quite so numb in here
I might have even shed a tear

But I cannot ever really begin to care
As I cracked the door and no one was there
And the wait has become so very long
That forgotten are the words to the song

So much nicer it might have been
If my heart someone again could win
But still waiting and all is the same
Getting so tired of all the wretched games

Scared little one run on home
While I sit here staring out the window alone
Like Mr. Turtle climb back in the shell
Keep on pretending we don't live in hell

Go on lying and kidding yourself
As the heart continues to collect dust on that shelf
Deny the feelings. There never was a spark
That might've been the answer to that ache in the heart

Oh how so very cold it is out there
But little by little I no longer care
Under covers and quite unknown
While I sit here staring out the window alone
