Sorry Theres No Love Song

I never wrote a love song,
Penned for anyone to sing,
I hope I’m pretty good with words,
But music’s not my thing.
I cannot write a chorus,
Cos I don’t know how it goes,
My words are not for humming,
That’s not for my rhymes or prose.
I can’t compose a melody,
Or write a middle eight,
A ballad isn’t something,
I could ever contemplate.
I can’t play music either,
I would never hit a note,
If I was ever asked to sing,
I’d go and get my coat.
I cannot tickle ivories,
Or draw a treble clef,
If I attempted songwriting,
You’d think I was tone deaf.
There’s silly ones, romantic ones,
Ones written to right wrongs,
But never me the lyricist,
You know I can’t write songs.
A skill I sometimes covet,
Though I can put words in rhymes,
Is writing just one special one,
I think of that sometimes.
Cos if I had the skill set,
Like composers always do,
My one and only love song,
Would be one I’d write for you.
I’d tell you what I think of you,
And how you make me feel,
Don’t worry though, it’s not a thing,
I’m about to reveal.
Cos music doesn’t come to me,
The way that poems do,
And you know for them I need,
Inspiration and it’s you.
So sorry there’s no love song,
That has come into my head,
I’ll stick to writing poems,
To say “I love you” instead!
