Songs Should Be Sung

I met a girl in Galveston last year.
The beach was broad and the people were few.
She was lovely as we talked 'neath the pier,
Minding the courting dance as young folks do.
This should end in pleasure as we both knew,
But danger lies hidden, we both had seen
In past loves gone wrong as tender turned mean.
But this was summer, the songs should be sung -
And few sing sweeter than those at nineteen.
So for awhile we were in love - and young.
