Soldier's Letter

My love, I cry to you wounded and all
Beside a rock with blood along the creek
Far from the distance of the fireworks
That entertained our cavalry to rest
I write to you with pen and shaking hand
On dirt and sand and heartbeats half awake
If thou shall ever live a hundred years
Forget not all the years our love in bloom
Forget me not, my hands upon your brow
Forget not muscles of the man you squeezed
With joy for tears and pain the love we shared
Through neon nights and sun-clouds of the day
Miss not the clear hour glass of life we swam
And kiss my stone when we shall meet again
