So Much To Be Consoled

Make no move to comfort me, dear fools,
Grief is all I have to hold tonight.
The memory of her is burning bright;
I beg the Lord above it never cools.

Stay your gentle gestures for a while;
Keep those wishful words behind your tongue.
Trouble not to joke or feign a smile,
That bible hymn of old can go unsung.

For she is most alive within my pain;
Her worth is measured out with all my tears,
So I will drench the earth for many years.
And till the day I die or go insane,
In deepest dark regret I will remain.
