So Close Yet Out of Reach

Across the room her face shines bright
   while talking with her friends;
her presence fills me with delight
   with beauty that transcends.
She caught my eye right from the start,
but feelings that I can’t impart.
      She caught my eye…
         she caught my eye
   but knows not what is in my heart.

Across the room her face shines bright
   as feelings I conceal;
she thinks me as a friend alright
   not knowing how I feel.
I’m just a friend; we talk of life;
our busy lives so full and rife.
      I’m just a friend…
         I’m just a friend
   which fills my very soul with strife.

Across the room her face shines bright
   so close yet out of reach;
to woo her just would not be right,
   and love would be a breach.
To someone else her life belongs,
and I will not commit these wrongs.
      To someone else…
         to someone else
   she walks away; I sing sad songs.
