So, What Should We Be? ( Sondheim On Sondheim.)

Sung to Send In The Clowns From A Little Night's Music.

So, what should we say,
right here, today?
Feelings that two people had
on one summers' day,
drifting away...

So, what should we do,
about me and you?
Recall we opened our hearts
and admired the view.
Fading and frayed..
drifting away..

Once we were young,
our passion was true.
I thought of no one or nothing
unless it was you.
Crossing the rugged terrain
that I found in my way.
Soon the refrain-
"Then came today..."

So, where do we go?
Now that we know
all of the moments we shared,
was that all for show?
I know I cared.
Yes, that much is true.
So, what about you?..

So, take it from here,
should we shed a tear?
For every grief that I gave,
I'll buy you a beer.
Yet, time is a thief,
who steals every year,
then, leaving us here.

So, what should we be,
if not you and me?
Dampering vibrant flames
to a lukewarm degree.
But, what about we?
Please..bring back the we.
God..please say that..to me..
